To Be The Best You Can Be

Stronger together
  1. Our Classes
  2. Year 3

Welcome To Year 3

In Year 3 you will find three enthusiastic classes that belong to Mrs Blissett, Miss Hanks and Mrs Guest and Mrs Sinclair. Working alongside the teachers and children are our lovely teaching assistants: Mrs Spendlove, Miss Caves and Mrs Smith. As a team we are all excited to begin the Junior School journey with yourselves and the children and we have some fantastic topics and learning opportunities ready to be explored.

We will be beginning the year with the topic ‘Through the Ages’ this will look at life from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. The children will learn about all aspects of prehistoric life through various stimuli such as drama, pictures, art and stories. We will be immersing ourselves in the Stone Age when we travel back in time during our Stone Age day, this includes mammoth hunting and cave painting!

Science in Autumn term will look at the structure of skeletons and at how we keep our bodies healthy, which will include looking at nutrition and healthy eating.

After Christmas we start our ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’ topic. This is an exciting topic where we learn all about volcanoes and earthquakes. We will look at different types of rocks and how they are formed. In January, we will be part of a workshop where we will experience earthquakes and volcanoes through drama.

Finally it is our ‘Emperors and Empires’ topic. This will focus on the Romans and the children will learn about all aspects of Roman life, from settlements to invasions and also how it impacted on Britain today. We will be visiting a real Roman Fort, which is part of Warwick Castle and the children will experience life as a Roman solider.

Science will focus on light and shadows and the children will learn what a shadow is, how it is formed and be able to create their own shadows.

Learning in Year 3 is exciting and engaging and we bring that learning to life by using learning opportunities through experiences, trips, visits and stimulating teaching and learning.
