At Higham Ferrers Junior School we provide a creative curriculum based around the Cornerstones Curriculum but adapted to the needs of our children.

Curriculum Vision

Our aim is to create a learning community that is safe, inclusive and enriching for all. A place that is child centred and intends to provide its pupils with a wealth of different and enjoyable experiences.

Children will develop a pride in their work and achieve their full potential. Every child will have their talents and successes recognised and celebrated.  Higham Ferrers Junior School takes an inclusive approach to developing children's attitudes and attributes, which are at the heart of what we do. We believe that by working together with parents and carers, we can nurture children to be tolerant, ambitious and resilient in life.

We will build on these to develop the skills they need for life, such as creativity, confidence and curiosity.

Curriculum Drivers

Diversity and Equality: Children are taught how to socially manage a range of situations that they may encounter as they grow into adulthood, whilst also developing their self-confidence, communication abilities and teamwork skills. We provide children with the cultural capital to enable them to respect the diversity that the world offers and to be inclusive to all. We encourage children to know and understand their place within the diverse world and how to build positive rewarding relationships with others including building a positive relationship with our community.

Ambition: We want every child who enters our school to develop their self-esteem and belief in themselves in order to be aspirational. Each child should feel empowered to be the best they can be and be surrounded by the correct support and inclusive approach to enable this. We want children to be aspirational for their futures, aspirational for their wider achievements and aspirational within all lessons.

Resilient Learners: Our children will be given the opportunities to develop their emotional and physical security needed to become resilient individuals who are able to take risks and deal with different challenges across the curriculum and in the wider world by thinking positively and having the confidence to ‘have a go’.  They will develop the life skills necessary to work with growing independence and perseverance to become resourceful problem-solvers able to nurture aspirations for the future.
