Higham Ferrers Charter week

This week we have been learning about the different charters of HIgham Ferrers, starting in 1251. Higham used to be called 'Hecham' and was owned by William de Ferrers in 1251.

We visited Chichele College, Bede House, the dovecote, St Mary's church and found out that Higham used to have a motte and bailey castle. The Charter group from the town council showed us around Higham and came into school sharing their research and providing us with informative powerpoints of the different charters (1251, Tudor, Stewart and Victorian).

We researched and drew castles, created our own motte and bailey castle and completed 'Miles' the medieval butcher scarecrow - which is being displayed this weekend at Chichele College.

A huge well done to all Year 6 for your hard work and effort this week - SATs are now over!

We celebrated 'wellbeing week' last week and continued to use our mindfulness breathing and yoga this week each morning prior to our tests to help us focus and stay calm.

Rowan brought in a piece of 'history' to encourage and motivate everyone - a tea towel from when lots of the class were at Higham Ferrers Infants.

After the final test this morning we celebrated with ice pops!

This afternoon the whole school celebrated a very tense and extremely exciting game of netball - staff v Year 6!
